If you’ve made it this far, you’re probably familiar with who I am, but maybe not entirely sure HOW I got here...
Ever since I was young, I had a passion for learning how the body performs. By 14 years old, I was in the gym doing my own experiments on how the human body performs best. For over ten years, I used my acquired knowledge as an elite martial arts (karate) athlete to several podium finishes on the National and International stage. Once my athletic career came to an end, I decided to DEDICATE my life to learning everything I can about optimizing human performance.
That led me to Vancouver Island University, where I started and completed my bachelor’s degree in Sport, Health, and Physical Education. In the programs scholarship course, I studied to obtain the Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) from the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). This certificate is considered the GOLD STANDARD when it comes to the field of strength and conditioning training. After obtaining both my degree and the CSCS, I grew my desire to learn more and help others understand how the human body performs.
That’s how I found my way to the University of Victoria (UVic), where I am now a PhD Student in Kinesiology. Before that, I obtained my Master of Science degree, which is where I really learned how to apply my knowledge of strength and conditioning to others. For my Masters thesis research, I worked with combat sport athletes to determine the physical demands of the Olympic martial arts (Check out my thesis HERE), and then created a fitness test battery that evaluates the physical requirements of the combat sports. Now, the KFit Fitness Test is recognized by sport governing bodies such as Karate Canada, Karate BC, and Boxing BC as the standardized fitness tests for their athletes across the country.
Now, as a PhD Student, I have the privilege of teaching physiology, and exercise prescription at UVic while also working every day with clients to apply my acquired knowledge to meet their fitness goals! I train a range of people, from business executives, entrepreneurs, and world-class athletes, and anyone in between, and I am truly humbled to be able to help YOU optimize your performance and exceed your training goals!
I hope you find the information on my website useful. If you have any questions, I encourage you to let me know!
I look forward to helping YOU optimize your performance in sport and health.
